after constantly running into the five dreamcatchers my freshman roommate had hanging all around our dorm room, i've had a thing against dreamcatchers. that is until i saw electric love's dreamcatchers. each dream catcher is handmade in NYC. i've had my eye on these for a while now especially because someone in our household (and it's not me or the cat) suffers from crazy night terrors. my mild obsession with them grew stronger last week when i spotted them in an amazing store in sayulita, mexico. now i just need to find where i've stashed my dreamcatcher money.

inspiration overload: holiday magazine

maybe i've been living under a rock, but i hadn't heard of the old magazine, holiday, until this month's vanity fair article feature. the magazine was around from the 1940s through the 60s and featured glamourous destinations for the jet-set crowd. legendary art director, frank zachary, hired big names like milton glaser and slim aarons to design the colorful covers and spreads.

i am absolutely obsessed with all the covers i've seen so far. according to the VF article, they are rare finds on ebay, but my search has begun- i'd love to get a collection of holiday covers framed. until i can hunt down the originals, i'll be drooling over these images.

unless you've been living under a rock, you know about the perfectly cool NYC surf brand, saturdays. saw this video of the making of their second magazine. i wouldn't mind a press check in iceland!

i have a thing for gray hair. a major thing. i found my first few grays about a year ago. i was a little surprised because my mom is nearly 60 and has natural nearly-jet-black hair. her mother is 90 and is gray only around her temples. so i always assumed i wouldn't go gray. while most women would be thrilled with the idea of not going gray, i've always embraced (and looked forward to) the idea of going gray.

enter my obsession with linda rodin. i first learned of her through a refinery29 profile and instantly fell in love with her gray hair, funky style and eclectic apartment. a former model turned stylist, rodin worked with legendary photographers herb ritts and richard avedon, dressed halle berry and madonna and regularly works with super models and victoria's secrets angels.

she also started a chemical-free luxury skincare product line made from essential oils derived from flowers and other botanicals, rodin olio lusso. i am DYING to try.

since i am still in recovery mode after spending new years eve in las vegas, i thought i would share a new music discovery for me. i reconnected with a very good old friend in vegas and he told me about his friend's band, starred. i've been listening to their album on repeat today because it is so perfectly calming and mellow. exactly what i need after two very wild nights in las vegas.

i have a serious stack of magazines that i'm struggling to get through. i can't finish one magazine without getting two more in the mail. my magazine stack is driving kev nuts, so i'm working my hardest to get through the backlogged issues. vanity fair featured the rosebery in its november issue and i just had to share.

simon davis, purchased a 1966 double-decker deisel commuter bus and lovingly restored it into the most glamorous, roving cocktail/dinner party bus. named the rosebery after her last route up rosebery avenue, the bus can seat eighteen on the top deck and another six to eight in the bar area downstairs. she is equipped with an expanding roof deck to ensure that even the tallest of guests will be comfortable. no expense was spared in her decor: the banquette seats were upholstered by the same upholster of bentleys and the bar is shagreen.

the rosebery may be coming to america next year. sign me up for her maiden trip!

i read about the film oma & bella this morning on freunde von freunden. looks like a very heartfelt documentary. can't wait for it to make its way to the US.

Oma & Bella is an intimate glimpse into the world of Regina Karolinski (Oma) and Bella Katz, two friends who live together in Berlin. Having survived the Holocaust and then stayed in Germany after the war, it is the food they cook together that they remember their childhoods, maintain a bond to each other and answer questions of heritage, memory and identity. As the film follows them through their daily lives, a portrait emerges of two women with a light sense of humor, vivid stories, and a deep fondness for good food. Created by Oma's granddaughter Alexa, the film captures their ongoing struggle to retain a part of their past while remaining very much engaged in the present.

place i love: la condesa

growing up only 45 minutes from the napa valley with two wine loving parents meant that i spent A LOT of time in wine country. whenever i'm home, we always seems to find ourselves in napa wine tasting. lucky me! last winter we discovered the restaurant la condesa on st. helena's main street.

fast forward to about four months later when my boyfriend and i were on a trip to austin, texas. everyone kept recommending a mexican restaurant called la condesa. it never occurred to me that my new favorite napa valley restaurant could also have an outpost in texas. but it is true. originally opened in austin in 2009, the napa valley location was opened last year. and soon LA will be getting a la condesa!

it is rare that a restaurant earns equal points in my book for decor and food. either restaurants have great food, but so-so decor or vice versa. but both the food and decor at both la condesas really impressed me. the modern mexican cuisine is inspired by the hip, bohemian neighborhood of the same name in mexico city. the decor is vibrant and bold, mixing classic design with bright colors and fun, punchy artwork.

the branding of la condesa is spot-on. designed by mucca (one of my top dream companies to work at), each element of the branding is eclectic and lively. the team at mucca hand-painted all the typography after being inspired by the hand-painted signs and menus found in condesa neighborhood market stalls and lunch counters.

next time you find yourself in wine country or hill country, pay a visit to la condesa and enjoy a margarita on the rocks with salt for me.
